The Perryville girls indoor track and field team captured its fifth straight 1A East Region title Monday, February 1, at PG Sports and Learning Complex in Landover.
Kaytlen "Texas" Nugent made a crucial steal and then hit the go-ahead basket to help the Rising Sun girls basketball team upended visiting Edgewood 30-27 Monday night, February 1.

Friday night, he witnessed something he had never seen before. The Panthers clawed back from an 18-0 deficit and would up pulling away from Rising Sun for a 50-39 triumph. "I've never had a game like this in my life where I was down by 18 points and we've come back to win," said Givens. "It was phenomenal." Rising Sun girls basketball coach Kathy Stoudt had already lost to Perryville without having star center Abby Mack on the floor.
Stoudt was not going to let that happen again. Mack picked up her fourth foul with 6:30 left in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers' coach kept the junior standout in the game and Mack helped her team hang on for a 33-31 triumph over the Panthers Thursday night. Thursday night's Rising Sun-Elkton boys basketball game was a tale of two halves.
For the Tigers, the first 16 minutes were the best of halves, but the final two quarters were the worst of halves. Elkton overcame a 12-point deficit by outscoring Rising Sun 59-30 in the second half and topped the Tigers 81-64. The Rising Sun girls basketball team never trailed in a 45-38 triumph over visiting Bohemia Manor Tuesday night, January 19.
The Rising Sun boys basketball team dominated winless North Harford 54-34 Friday night.
It was the Tigers' third straight victory. Perryville's girls basketball team finished with a flourish.
The Panthers used a late 13-2 run to post a 39-33 triumph over visiting Edgewood Thursday night. Tyler Miller won the final bout of the night by fall to propel the North East wrestling team to a 39-37 triumph over visiting Rising Sun Wednesday.
